In Buddhist terminology, we call kleshas hindrances – hindrances to the path. They are also considered attributes of mind. Being on this esoteric path, knowing the generation of whatever the karma was or whatever the samskara was, will be important in understanding the particular life you are leading now. Ultimately, it helps you to eliminate those harmful tendencies or to grow them if they are positive tendencies such as, for instance, the tendency towards study of the religious books, meditating, the experience of group love.

Kleshas are often individually based, but samskaras can be group oriented. Any group that you’re part of, that generates the same energy, will create group samskaras. This can be for good or bad intentions or motivations. Therefore, it is important to always carefully consider your actions not only as an individual, but also as an individual that is part of a larger grouping of people, and of course of the group as a whole.

In this talk given by Bodo Balsys in Australia, these two important terms are discussed.
